Rockyview would, over time, remediate a currently idle industrial site for Discovery LNG, which would result in a significant benefit to the area and the Province of B.C. The potential project’s site contained a pulp and paper mill, which began operating in 1952 and closed permanently in 2009. Work on the site would start with environmental testing and remediation under B.C. Ministry of Environment regulations, followed by demolition of some of the existing structures on the site.
Structures of this age can potentially contain some hazardous materials incorporated into their original construction. The environmental work at the site would identify all potential contaminants and qualified experts would be brought in for remediation or removal in accordance with government regulations.
