On September 9, QRCI hosted a “Meet & Greet” to introduce Discovery LNG to neighbours and key stakeholder from Campbell River and surrounding areas. For the event, community members were encouraged to visit the project site and learn more about LNG. Residence from nearby communities such as Orange Point/Painter-Barclay, municipal representatives, business owners, First Nations leaders and media were all in attendance. Over 400 individuals attended the event.
QRCI had 22 staff members on hand to host the event. Subject matter experts were there to answer questions and educate individuals on LNG and potential plans for the site. Many participants made note on their feedback forms about how friendly and knowledgeable the staff were.
A video presentation and display boards were showcased to provide more information about LNG including answers regarding how it is processed, stored and transported. Although worldwide, LNG facilities have been in existence and safely being used since the early 1960’s, most individuals in North America know little about them.
We were very pleased to have such a wonderful turn out for the event. We enjoyed listening to stories from community members who used to work at the mill and were happy to share information as to what the future might hold for the important site.
